All Church of England churches will now close with immediate effect in line with the Government’s instructions.
The Archbishops and Bishops of the Church of England have urged everyone to follow the instructions given by the Prime Minister to stay in their homes in a national effort to limit the transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Please keep an eye on the Church of England’s website www.churchofengland.org to find out what is happening.
The Cannings & Redhorn Team was formed in June 2012 from the former Cannings Benefice and Redhorn Team, and now comprises the parishes of All Cannings, Bishop’s Cannings with Etchilhampton, Chirton with Patney, Marden, Urchfont with Stert, and Wilsford, which also include the hamlets of Allington, Bourton, Coate, Conock, Horton and Wedhampton, together with Cannings Hill a fast-developing area adjacent to Devizes.
Our parishes are all situated in the Vale of Pewsey, bordered by the Marlborough Downs to the north and Salisbury Plain to the south. The Vale is an area of outstanding natural beauty mainly given to open farmland and unspoilt chalk downland which is rich in wildlife, history and archaeology. Our villages and hamlets lie to the east of the attractive market town of Devizes and around 25 miles by road from Salisbury. The ancient monuments of Stonehenge and Avebury are no more than 15 miles distant. The Kennet and Avon Canal (completed nearly two hundred years ago) meanders through the middle of the Vale.
There are four church schools in the Team (see Schools), all of which take children from 4 to 11 years old. All the schools have close ties with their respective local church, with the churches providing governors, venues for services, and personnel (both lay and ordained) for assemblies.
The Cannings and Redhorn Team takes its responsibilities surrounding the safeguarding of children, young people, and adults who may be at risk very seriously, and works in partnership with the Diocese of Salisbury to ensure that we work in accordance with best practice at all times. Joining Together (Virtually) For Services
Joining together (virtually) for services
We are going to be joining together virtually for the following services and hope to develop this as we get to grips with technology!
Morning prayer at 8.30am
Morning prayer at 9.30am
You can find these services in the book “Common Worship – Daily Prayer” or more easily at www.churchofengland.org/prayer-and-worship/join-us-service-daily-prayer where you can also download an iOS or Android app which makes this even easier.
Rev’d Joanna and I will also be sending out messages via the Churchwardens as things develop.
Our communities are being brilliant rallying together to support the elderly and those who are having to self-isolate because they are vulnerable.
Keep yourself safe, don’t take any unnecessary risks and join us virtually for Daily Prayer!
